RESToration

Joyful restIn Matthew 11:28 (NLT), “Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’”

This little guy looks like he’s enjoying this ‘rest’ we’re all promised. If someone took a snapshot of us while we were sleeping, would this be our expression? We know this baby boy’s not worried, distressed or even concerned about the slightest by the expression on his face. To smile in one’s sleep is to experience the truest form of peace and joy. These can only come from Love Himself. He promises to give all who are tired and burdened this type of rest. This rest is not anything we have to work for, at least not in the form of toiling. He said HE will GIVE us rest. We don’t have to work for it or take it. We do have to actively trust Him and cast our cares upon Him knowing He cares for us but He promises to take care of the rest. “Well, Carlyncia, what about those of us who have literally been to hell and back, or worst yet, are still struggling to overcome the battles that confront us daily?” My simple answer to that question is another promise He gives the broken – those who were once whole who now find themselves scattered, challenged for life to make sense, picking up the pieces of themselves others have purposely disparaged severely by mistreatment, disrespect and utter disregard.

Joel 225

He promises to restore to us all that’s been taken from us, no matter how it was taken or how much was taken. If we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that what’s ‘taken’ from us will be given back and with increase to spare, why are we concerned in the least? Why not let that person, place or thing go without restraint? Perhaps because the letting go of a thing, fully surrendering it, releasing our grip from it requires admitting we are no longer in control and causes us to experience a ‘death’ of sorts and with that ‘death’ there is a requirement, a grieving process many times filled with pain, anguish, delayed hope, feelings of abandonment and/or rejection. The process to RESToration doesn’t come about instantaneously; it takes time. However, when that process has been completed, there is just what Love promises…RESToration ~ REST is the beginning of the process…REST, first in His promise fulfilled by our faith. He is Who He says He is and is doing what He promises us He’ll do.
